The International Society for the Studies
of Chinese Overseas (ISSCO) and the Department of Anthropology, The Chinese
University of Hong Kong are organizing an international conference on Chinese
Overseas: Culture, Religions and Worldview. Scholars and researchers
interested in presenting papers or organizing conference panels are welcome.
Details are as follows.
Conference theme: Chinese Overseas:
Culture, Religions and Worldview
Rationale: The theme is intentionally
broad to enable more scholars to participate. Papers on various aspects of the
history and cultural life of the Chinese overseas (Chinese diasporas) are
welcome, and it is hoped that there will be significant number of papers on
religions and worldview (such as the Confucian worldview) of the Chinese
overseas as these aspects have not been systematically studied. This conference
will thus provide a forum for discussing various aspects of Chinese cultural
life. Some possible topics include: Education; Religions and Migration;
Religions, Localization and Identities; Chinese Philosophies and Chinese
Overseas; Cultural Reproduction and Identities; Weddings and Funerals; Family
and Transnational Networks, etc.
