Peer Evaluation. The evaluation phase of your project will give you
an opportunity to get valuable feedback on your Learning Object (LO). A LEARNet
funded evaluation team trialed a peer evaluation scheme which you are welcome
to adapt for your LO. The following files should help you to prepare for, create
and conduct your evaluation:
Examples. It may also help to have a look at the LOs that participated
in the trial:
- Evaluation Reports of the trial Objects
Recommendations. The evaluation team recommends that you:
- Set a firm deadline of 2-3 weeks. If an extension is necessary, try to
limit it to 1 week and do not continue extending it beyond that period. The
experience during the trial was that peer reviewers who did not respond within
that time were unlikely to respond even if they were given more time.
- Try to keep the number of questions to 20 or less (if possible) so that
your peer reviewers do not become overburdened.
- Make sure that you include enough information for your evaluators to understand
the purpose of the evaluation and how to complete the questionnaire. However,
also make sure to keep it as simple as possible. Do not overwhelm them with
too much information.
- Make the process as simple and time efficient as you can for your reviewers.
For example, if they need to become a member of your site or the LRC, help
them by setting up the account in advance and then give them the login and
password.
- If your Learning Object is a package that people must download and install,
make sure that you give clear instructions on how to do this. Do not assume
that your evaluators will just intuitively know how to do this.
- Make sure to inform your reviewers of any technical requirements your LO
may have (i.e. is it PC only, do you need IE 6.0 or higher, do you need to
install java or other plug-ins?)
Happy Evaluating!
