A territory wide cross-sectional growth survey, covering 25,000 Chinese children from birth to 18 years was performed in 1993 by the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority.
Subjects include students studying in 49 schools and infants attending 8 maternal and child health clinics, all randomly chosen to represent Hong Kong. There were 500-800 subjects per sex per year. Growth parameters measured include weight for age, height for age, weight for height, head circumference, sitting height, upper to lower segment ratio, menarcheal age, age of pubertal changes - breast development in girls and penile development in boys, triceps and subscapular skinfold thickness and body mass index.
