Bai Hua 1956-

Born in Chongqing, he gained a BA in English from Guangzhou Foreign Languages Institute and later studied for an MA in Western Literary Trends at Sichuan University. He has worked as an interpreter and English teacher. His first collection of poems, Expressions, was published in 1988. Because his political views offended hardline leaders during the 1989 protest movement he was unable to publish anything in China for several years.
