Fan Ye (Fan Yeh) 398-446
A historian and the author of, among other works, the History of the Later Han, the official dynastic history of that period. He was born into a gentry family in Hebei and served as an official for members of the ruling Liu-Song family, but was exiled to Anhui in 432 and there began his magnum opus. His stylish narrative prose and well-structured essays in the 120-juan work have been much admired. He eventually came back into favour, but was executed in 446 because of close personal associations with those plotting a palace coup.
