Huangfu Ran 717?-770?

A native of Danyang in Runzhou (in present-day Jiangsu), Huangfu Ran gained the jinshi degree in 756. In his career at court he rose to the position of Rectifier of Omissions in the Secretariat, whose duties included checking draft proclamations and numerous other documents that were issued from the throne. His poetry is collected in Huangfu Ran shiji [Collected poems of Huangfu Ran], compiled and prefaced by his brother, Huangfu Zeng (?-785?), another well-known poet at the time.
