Li Panlong (Li P'an-lung) 1514-1570

The leader of the influential 'Later Seven Masters' group of poets and critics during the sixteenth century, a group who wished to preserve the ideals of 'reverting to ancient literary norms' propounded of their predecessors at the beginning of the century, the 'Earlier Seven Masters'. Li gained his jinshi degree in 1544 and held office in Peking and in the provinces before being dismissed in 1557. The rest of his life was spent in retirement.
