Liu Suola (Liu Sola) 1955-
Writer, musician and composer. She was born in Peking and her formal education was limited, but after the Cultural Revolution she attended the Central Conservatory of Music in Peking, graduating in composition in 1983. She then taught in the Music Department of the Central Institute for Nationalities. Her first story, "Ni bie wu xuanze" [You got no other choice] (1985) was immensely popular in China, and she has written several other short stories, some novellas and a novel. She went to live in England in 1988 and from there has travelled to work in the United States and Hong Kong.
