Luo Qing (Luo Ch'ing, Lo Ch'ing) [real name Luo Qingzhe] 1948-
A professional painter who is also on the faculty of National Taiwan Normal University, where he teaches English and American Literature. He was born in mainland China, grew up in Keelung, Taiwan and majored in English at Fu Jen Catholic University. He received an MA in comparative literature from the University of Washington in 1974. His first collection of poems was Chi xigua de fangfa [Ways to eat a watermelon] (1972), and as the modernist influence in Taiwan began to wane, his work was heralded as a fresh starting-point for modern Chinese poetry. Translations of his poetry and an essay on his poetics is included in Joseph Allen's Forbidden Games and Vieo Poems: The Poetry of Yang Mu and Lo Ch'ing.
