Meng Chi
Meng Chi 9th century Hailing from Pingchang (in present-day Shandong), Meng chi gained the jinshi degree in 838. He was appointed Chief Secretary in the Private Secretariat of the Surveillance Commissioner in Zhexi, but was dismissed from office on grounds of slander. By the end of the 850s, Meng was re-appointed to the same post in the Private Secretariat of the Military Commissioner in Huainan. Especially recognized for his quatrains on historical themes, Meng was a contemporary of such well-known poets as Gu Feixiong (fl. 8th-9th century) and Du Mu, with whom he exchanged poems. Seventeen of his poems are collected in Quan Tang shi.
