Qi Baishi (Ch'i Pai-shih) [real name Qi Chungzhi] 1863-1957
Modern/contemporary painter and poet. Qi was born in Hunan and worked initially as a carpenter. He later studied painting, poetry, seal carving and calligraphy. Although primarily known as a painter, he has written over 3000 poems characterized by simplicity, concision and humour.
