Qi Jiguang
Best known for his military achievements. After he rose to be Assistant Regional Commander of Zhejiang in 1556, Qi successfully fought the Japanese pirates who were attacking China's coastal cities. In 1563 he was transferred to Jizhou where he served for sixteen years as Deputy Commander-in-chief. Besides his works on military training and strategy, Qi also wrote poetry in which he describes army life in all its aspects.
