Shang Qin [real name Lo Yen, also known as Luo Ma] 1930-
Contemporary poet. Born in Gongxian county, Sichuan, Shang Qin joined the KMT army at the age of fifteen. In 1950, he left the mainland for Taiwan. There, he became involved with the modernist poetry group. In 1960, he began publishing poetry, most of it surrealist in style, under the name "Shang Qin". He left the army in 1968. His collections include Meng houzhe liming ji qita [Dreams or dawn and other things] and Yong jiao sixiang [Thinking with one's feet]. The Frozen Torch contains a selection of his work translated into English.
