Song Xiaolian ?-1926

Song was born in Jilin province, and was still a young man when, in 1888, he followed the Qing official Li Jinyong to the extreme north-eastern regions to assist him in the supervision of gold mines. He recorded his contact with the Russians and opinions on westerners in his diary Notes on a Journey to the Northern Borders.
