Tao Chengzhang (T'ao Ch'eng-chang)

A staunch member of the Guangfu Hui (Restoration Society), Tao was actively involved in organizing a revolution to overthrow the Qing empire at the turn of the twentieth century. He was a native of Shaoxing, studied military science in Japan and worked as a history teacher and newspaper editor in Singapore, Java and Burma. He had close connections with secret societies and was assassinated in 1912.
