Xi Xi [real name Cheung Yin] 1938-
Born in Shanghai, came to Hong Kong in 1950. She graduated from the Grantham College of Education in 1958 and worked as a primary school teacher. Her first short story was published in 1955. In the 1960s she adopted Xi Xi as her regular pen name and established a local reputation as a fiction writer and film and art critic. She became known internationally in the early 1980s when she won major literary awards in Taiwan. Her representative works include the prize-winning story 'Xiang wo zheyang de yige nüzi' 像我這樣的一個女子 [A girl like me], the novel Wo cheng 我城 [My city] (1979) and the fiction series on Feitu Zhen 肥土鎮 [Fertile Town] (1982–1996).
