Zhang Hu d. c. 853
From Qinghe in present-day Hebei, Zhang though recommended for government appointment in 831, Zhang was never selected to serve because of rejection by some of those in power. He spent most of his time travelling and writing poetry. In his old age he retreated to his favourite area Danyang (in present-day Hubei) where he died a recluse. His works, including the poems on landscapes and court life for which he was best known, are collected in Zhang Chengji ji ±i©Ó¦N¶° [Works of Zhang Chengji].
