2008年校董會周年聚餐
本年度書院校董會周年聚餐已於二零零八年十二月五日（星期五）假恒生銀行總行博愛堂舉行。是日超過六十多位大學及書院嘉賓、校董、校友及教職員出席。席上並頒發書院長期服務獎予服務書院超過二十年的教職員及二零零七年度校長模範教學獎。今年獲獎的同事包括：

2008 Annual Board Dinner
The Annual Dinner of the Board of Trustees was held on Friday, 5 December 2008 at the Penthouse, Hang Seng Bank Headquarters. Over 60 guests, trustees, alumni and staff
attended the Dinner. Long Service Awards (for staff with over 20 years of service) and The VC's Exemplary Teaching Awards 2007 were presented at the Dinner.

院長推薦委員會
聯合書院院長馮國培教授的任期將於2009年7月31日屆滿。大學將組成一個由大學校長擔任主席，成員包括書院校董會代表一名及書院院務委員會代表六名的院長推薦委員會，負責推薦下任聯合書院院長的人選，供大學校董會考慮作決定。
書院校董會已於2008年12月11日選出校董會主席岑才生先生作為校董會代表。
而書院院務委員會已於2008年11月25日的會議中選出以下六位委員，參與院長推薦委員會的工作：

Committee for the Appointment of the Next Head of United College
Professor Fung Kwok-pui's current term as Head of United College will expire on 31 July 2009. A Committee for the Appointment of the Next Head (the Committee) will be formed to make recommendation to the University Council the next Head of the College. The Committee will be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and its membership will include one elected member of the College Board of Trustees and six Fellows elected by the Assembly of Fellows.
Mr Shum Choi-sang, Chairman of the Board of Trustees was elected on 11 December 2008 as the representative of the Board.
The Assembly of Fellows has elected the following six Fellows to serve on the Committee at its meeting held on 25 November 2008:

聯合書院2008至09年度獎學金頒獎典禮
本年度書院獎學金頒獎典禮已於2008年11月13日下午5時30分假香港中文大學邵逸夫堂舉行。是日蒙書院校董會主席岑才生先生及書院基金會主席張煊昌博士蒞臨主禮，並蒙多位校董及捐獎人撥冗親臨觀禮。此外亦有獲獎同學、家長、校友、大學及書院同仁等近五百人到賀，場面十分熱鬧。書院於典禮後分別設茶會及晚宴招待獲獎同學、家長及捐獎人。
2008-09 United College Scholarship Presentation Ceremony
The 2008-09 United College Scholarship Presentation Ceremony was held on 13 November 2008 at 5:30 pm in the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. Mr Shum Choi-sang, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees and Dr Thomas H C Cheung, Chairman of the College Endowment Fund Committee were the officiating guests. Also gracing the Ceremony were various scholarships donors and trustees of the College. Over 500 guests, including the award recipients and their parents, alumni, officers of the University and the College were present. A tea reception and dinner were hosted by the College after the Ceremony for the award recipients, their parents and the donors respectively.
2007至08年度書院畢業典禮
書院2007至08年度書院畢業典禮已於12月4日圓滿舉行。書院邀請了香港入境事務處處長白韞六先生及書院校友會會長殷巧兒女士為書院畢業典禮之主禮嘉賓。當日嘉賓、畢業生及家長逾一千五百人出席於邵逸夫堂舉行的書院畢業典禮，典禮後並於校園舉行植樹儀式及拍攝書院畢業生團體照。
2007-08 Graduation Ceremony
The 2007-08 UC Graduation Ceremony was held on Thursday, 4 December 2008. Mr Simon Y L Peh, I.D.S.M., Director of Immigration Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Ms Lina H Y Yan, President of United College Alumni Association were the officiating speakers of the Ceremony. Over one thousand and five hundred guests, graduates and parents of the College attended the Graduation Ceremony at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The Ceremony was followed by a Tree Planting Ceremony and Group photo-taking for UC Graduates on the College Campus.
香港相思──余光中的文學生命
香港中文大學文學院、聯合書院與大學圖書館系統於2008年12月15日至2009年1月7日，在大學圖書館展覽廳合辦「香港相思——余光中的文學生命」展覽，重點介紹余光中教授居港期間的文學創作及活動。余光中教授寫作逾半世紀，其詩歌、散文、評論、翻譯在世界華文文學的創作和研究均佔重要的席位。是次展覽精選展出余光中教授的著作、手跡、照片、評論專輯和私人珍藏等，讓廣大讀者有機會認識和了解余光中教授在現代文學上的傑出成就。
此外，余光中教授亦會於2008年12月15日（星期一）下午5時30分出席在逸夫書院大講堂舉辦的「余光中教授文學講座暨詩文欣賞會」，分享創作心得，並由同學朗誦他的名篇。約五百名師生及中學生參加，氣氛熱烈。
Memories of Hong Kong–The Literary Life of Yu Kwang Chung
An exhibition "Memories of Hong Kong – The Literary Life of Yu Kwang Chung”, with special emphasis on his literary achievements during his stay in Hong Kong (1974-1985), will be jointly organised by the Faculty of Arts, the United College and the University Library System of The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 15 December 2008 to 7 January 2009 at the Exhibition Hall of the University Library. The exhibition will showcase the manuscripts, letters, photos and private collections of Prof. Yu Kwang Chung.
Professor Yu Kwang Chung, a well-known Chinese scholar and poet, and formerly a
Reader at the Department of Chinese Language
and Literature of United
College from 1974 to 1985, enjoys
high reputation in literary circles and has been awarded numerous
prestigious prizes and honours.
Apart from the exhibition, a literary talk was given by Professor Yu together with recitation of his works by students on Monday, 15 December 2008 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Lecture Theatre, Shaw College. About 500 University members and secondary school students attended the talk which was well received.

本院校董鄭裕彤博士獲加拿大西安大略大學附屬商學院Richard Ivey School of Business頒發Ivey商業領袖獎，以表揚鄭博士對商界、教育及對成立Ivey Business School亞洲分校的貢獻。

College Trustee Awarded the Ivey Business Leader Award
Dr Cheng Yu-tung, College Trustee, was awarded the Ivey Business Leader Award by the Richard Ivey School of Business of The University of Western Ontario, in recognition of his contribution to the business and education sectors, as well as his contribution to the establishment of the Ivey Business School's Asian campus.

署理書院輔導長任命
書院輔導長王香生教授於2008年12月8至10日應邀訪問北京師範大學，並於12月11至12日以客座研究員身份訪問上海體育科學研究所，上述期間由生物系朱利民教授出任署理輔導長。
Appointment of Acting Dean
Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students visited the Beijing Normal University from 8 to 10 December 2008. He also visited Shanghai Research Institute of Sports Science as its Visiting Research Fellow from 11 to 12 December 2008. Professor Chu Lee-man from Department of Biology was the Acting Dean of Students during the above period.
書院委任通識教育副主任
書院增設通識教育副主任職位，以協助通識教育主任迎接大學學制更改及果效為本方針策略等挑戰。首任通識教育副主任為化學系余濟美教授，任期兩年，由2008年10月28日至2010年10月27日。書院謹感謝余教授對推動書院通識教育的支持及承擔。
Newly Appointed Associate Dean of General Education
The College established the post of Associate Dean of General Education to assist the Dean of General Education to take up the challenges ahead on changing of curriculum and adopting the outcomes-based approaches in the College General Education programme. The first Associate Dean of General Education is Professor Jimmy Yu from the Department of Chemistry. His terms of service began from 28 October 2008 to 27 October 2010. Our heartfelt thanks to Professor Yu for his support and devotion in the promotion of College general education.
教育部屬下高校對外交流人員赴港研討班
香港中文大學於2008年11月16至21日首次舉辦「教育部屬下高校對外交流人員赴港研討班」。在教育部大力支持下，三十名從事對外交流的內地大學行政人員參加是次活動。學員於2008年11月17日訪問聯合書院，由院長馮國培教授及院務主任李雷寶玲女士講解中文大學的書院制度。與會者其後參觀書院宿舍及各項設施。
Training Programme for Mainland Academic Links Officers
The first training programme in the Chinese University of Hong Kong for mainland academic links officers was held in 16-21 November 2008. With the great support from the Ministry of Education, 30 executives from various mainland universities had participated in the programme. The executives visited United College on 17 November 2008 and met Prof Fung Kwok-pui, the College Head and Mrs Christina Li, College Secretary, to learn about CUHK's college system. The participants then visited the College facilities and student hostel.
渣打馬拉松2009──聯合書院隊

Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2009—United College Team
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2009 will take place on Sunday, 8 February 2009. To encourage our students, staff members and alumni to participate, United College Task Force on Health Promotion, College Life Committee and Staff Association will prepare a T-shirt as souvenir for each United College athlete and offer partial sponsorship to participating students, as well as organise relevant talks and Trial Run sessions. 樂步行（第三期）步行活動開始啟動
為了推行校園步行文化，大學健康促進及防護委員會舉辦了「樂步行」活動，鼓勵教職員及學生參加。首兩次樂步行開步禮已分別於2007年3月16日及2007年11月2日舉行。兩次活動反應十分熱烈，參加者都認同多步行有助減少汽車廢氣排放，令校園空氣清新，更符合環保原則；再者步行對身體健康有莫大益處，不費分亳，往來校園的時間與乘車時間相若，沿途更可欣賞美景，一舉多得。
承接前兩次的樂步行，第三次的樂步行將會於2009年1月9日（星期五）舉行，由大學鐵路站，經過西部教學大樓的天橋直達聯合書院。參加者可獲得精美紀念品，詳情請留意樂步行資訊網頁(http://www.cuhk. edu.hk/healthpromotion/walking.html)的公佈。
Walking Campaign (Phase 3) is Launched
The University's Committee on Health Promotion and Protection organised Walking Campaign for all staff and students. It aimed at promoting "walking culture" within the University. The first two campaigns were held on 16 March 2007 and 2 November 2007 respectively. The overall feedbacks from participants are overwhelming. They agreed that the Campaign can encourage them to maintain a healthy habit and green campus.
To extend the success of the last two campaigns, the Walking Campaign Phase 3 will be organised on 9 January 2009 (Friday), from University Train Station to United College, passing through the new Western Teaching Complex. Participants will be rewarded with souvenirs. The details will be announced in the website of Walking Campaign at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/healthpromotion/walking.html.

《聯合邁進》第四期已於2008年12月12日出版。本期主題為「聯合環保。獨領風騷」。本出版刊物將分發予校內各單位、各大專院校、公共圖書館、所有聯合校友會會員及香港各中學。書院同仁亦可瀏覽《聯合邁進》網上版：http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/uwa/。
第五期《聯合邁進》將會於2009年4月出版，並以介紹聯合書院生物化學系為主題。《聯合邁進》編輯委員會現誠意向大家徵稿，歡迎聯合書院各教職員、校友及學生與大家分享對書院生活及教與學的感受。稿件內容、題材、語文及體裁不限，亦歡迎寄來圖片。

United We Advance Fourth Issue
The fourth issue of United We Advance has been published on 12 December 2008. The theme of this issue features on United College's Environmental Protection. The publications will be distributed to various departments/units of the University, tertiary institutions, public libraries, secondary schools in Hong Kong as well as all members of United College Alumni Association. The online version of United We Advance is also available at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/uwa/.
The fifth issue of United We Advance will be published in April 2009. It will focus on the Biochemistry Department of United College. The Editorial Committee of United We Advance also invites articles from staff, alumni and students of United College. Please feel free to share your experience on college life and your insights on teaching and learning. There are no restrictions on the topic, language and genre. Photos are welcome too.
