The three major objectives for the establishment of CACHS are:

1. To examine the interface of cultural heritage and community development in Hong Kong, including the perception of development by those affected, whether local lifestyles and needs for archaeological site conservation are sufficiently respected by policy makers, and how these changes can fulfill the expectations and needs of the community.
2. To examine cultural heritage and archaeology preservation and development in mainland China, with a focus on the policies and measures adopted to preserve, manage, and use cultural heritage, both material and non-material, and on the new methods applied in archaeological research and delivering outcomes for the public.
3. To carry out comparative study of cultural heritage preservation and development in Asia and Pacific.

1. 本中心希望探討香港文化遺產和社會發展的相互影響，包括地區發展能否得到認識，地方化的生活風格及考古遺址保育需求能否得到決策者的尊重，社會改變是否合乎公眾預期，滿足公眾需求。
2. 本中心還將重點研究有關中國大陸考古以及物質和非物質文化遺產保存、管理和利用的政策和措施。
3. 此外，本中心還將對亞洲和太平洋地區的文化遺產保育和開發進行比較研究。
