Teaching for learning
Facilitator: Professor Keith Thomas
Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research

Detail: University teaching is not merely the delivery of factual knowledge from teachers to students but should focus more on facilitating students’ understanding of knowledge and their ability to apply knowledge into real situations. Participants will consider the goals of university education and reflect on their own achievements. They will also chart their own approaches to learning, and consider the sorts of teaching and learning strategies that maximize a deep approach to learning.

Date: 4 June 2009 Thu

Time: 2:30pm - 4:30pm
Venue: Room 706, William M.W. Mong Engineering Building
(next to Ho Sin-Hang Engineering Building)
(H32 on Campus Map)

Remark: These are required sessions for teachers who wish to complete the Professional Development Course (PDC) ‘Becoming an Excellent Teacher’.

The full requirements for obtaining a certificate of completion for this course are:
  • attendance at five two-hour sessions (three of which are required); and
  • submission of a short reflective piece on your own teaching. This can be an individual reflection over a series of classes or an experience of peer feedback with a colleague.
The requirements would normally be completed within one academic year.
