Project Objectives

This project aims at promoting the use of the outcome-based approach in science programmes. It provides support to programmes to develop learning outcome statements and instruments to measure students’ achievement of learning outcomes.

Description of process and deliverables

Learning outcome statements and instruments produced for all 11 science programmes instead of the original target of a few.

Evaluation of outcomes

  • The project was closely monitored by CLEAR.
  • Preliminary outcome statements and instruments were widely disseminated, evaluated and commented by teachers, students and alumni.
  • Project results were evaluated by CUHK’s internal Programme Reviews Panels.

Dissemination of results & deliverables

Within CUHK Science Faculty

  • Promoted by presentations in meetings and retreats, etc.
  • The scope of the project was expanded to all programmes in the Faculty.
  • A booklet that collects recent initiatives in science programmes is under preparation.

Within CUHK

  • Disseminated in an OBA briefing session held in November 2007.

To a Larger Community

  • Presented in a workshop organized by the Science Sub-Group of the Inter-Institutional Task Force on OBA.
  • Presented a poster in the Teaching and Learning Innovative ExPo 2008 organized by CUHK and obtained the Poster Award.
  • Presented in the May 2009 Symposium organized by the Inter-Institutional Task Force on OBA.
  • Launched the website http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/sci/OBA/
