Project Objectives
The project aims to establish a Universities-Schools partnership practice to enrich teaching and learning experiences for both sectors through a series of structured community design activities by exploring various contemporary “issues related to our Built Environment” and stimulate their interests and concern.
Description of process and deliverables
Stage 1: Project Inception (Jan 07 – Feb 07)
- Establish Project Steering Committee; Open invitation to partner schools; Appoint project personnel; Liaison with foreign institutes;
- Prepare for upcoming multi-professional development programme;
- Develop project website.
Stage 2: Multi-professional Development Programme for University Students and School Teachers (Jan 07 – Dec 07)
- Develop architectural teaching/learning aids;
- Organize a series of collaborative participatory activities including site visits, sharing meetings and seminars, workshops, charettes, etc.;
- Generate innovative design ideas by respective teams of students and teachers with the support of practicing professionals.
Stage 3: Documentation / Dissemination (Jan 08 – June 08)
- Organize exchange programme with international institutes including visits and seminar;
- Participate in international architecture exhibition;
- Organize local exhibition for the public;
- Evaluate the universities-schools partnership practice employed and compile into a published sourcebook for further framework reference in future.
Evaluation of outcomes
The project team has conducted a self-evaluation mechanism and survey feedback from all participants to workshops / seminars employing evaluation questionnaire for review, quantitative assessment and documentation.
Dissemination of results & deliverables
The project team has been invited to a number of local and international visits / conferences / symposiums / exhibitions. A number of local exhibitions have been organized by architecture students to arouse public interests in their living environment in their “University – Schools Partnership Participatory Projects”. The project team was one of the exhibitors in an international exhibition “Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism \ Architecture 2007” to promote public participation through our Universities-Schools partnership and other collaborative project practices in the design process of our built environment. Project summary sourcebook served as an exhibition leaflet were distributed at the exhibition.
