Project Objectives
To provide an opportunity for academic and administrative colleagues at the University to further familiarize with the latest developments in the NSS curriculum and the reporting system of the new Hong Kong diploma of Secondary Education, a Seminar on the New Senior Secondary Curriculum was held on 22 April 2009.
And, to provide a repository for the information related to the implementation of 334 as they impact on the admission of students to undergraduate programmes at CUHK, the Admissions website of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid has been revamped to incorporate a 334 Admissions mini-website.
Description of process and deliverables
Guest speakers from the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, and the secondary school sector were invited to delivered presentations on the preparation for the new curriculum and assessment; the planning and preparation in schools; and counseling and guidance for students and parents. Six parallel sessions focusing on specific subjects were held in the afternoon to provide more in-depth discussion on key subjects in the new curriculum.
Over 200 participants, including school principals and teachers, academic and administrative colleagues at the University, attended the Seminar.
Evaluation of outcomes
Majority of the participants (about 80%) who responded to a post-seminar survey agreed or strongly agreed that the seminar has enhanced their understanding of the new curriculum and assessment. Participants found that the interaction with secondary school teachers and principals had helped them understand the coverage of the syllabi of specific subjects, as well as the knowledge level of students who would be admitted on the strength of the new HKDSE results in future.
Dissemination of results & deliverables
The presentation materials, as well as a summary of the discussion in each session, have been uploaded to an intranet webpage “Admissions under the 334 Academic Structure”.
A modified version of the intranet webpage “Admissions under the 334 Academic Structure” for the public will be launched in due course.
