Project Objectives

A pilot study of the proposed Course and Teaching Evaluation (CTE) Questionnaire was conducted to enhance validity and reliability of the proposed common items, fine-tune the items, eliminate weaker items, examine the factorial structure of the items, and narrow down on a smaller set of items for University-wide implementation. The objectives originally planned were achieved.

Description of process and deliverables

A total of 154 courses with 5,035 students were randomly selected across the University for the pilot study. Each participating student filled in the pilot instrument in parallel with the existing CTE for comparative purpose, at the end of Term 2 of 2008-09.

Evaluation of outcomes

The results of the pilot were analyzed for validity and reliability. Changes recommended by CLEAR and various faculties were incorporated, specifically, the instruction were moved to the top of the questionnaire and the wordings of the instruction (in both Chinese, English) were revised.

Dissemination of results & deliverables

A finalized version of the CTE Questionnaire was adopted for implementation across the University in the 2009-10 academic year.
