Project Objectives

  • To enable university teachers and related administrative staff members to develop and implement effective service-learning programs relevant to the learning needs of students, missions of their departments/units, and service needs of the community
  • To collect and analyze data on the service-learning programs designed/implemented by the participants in this project
  • To facilitate experience sharing and dissemination of the participants’ good practices and exemplary programs in service-learning

    Timing Deliverables
    Months 0-4
    • A three-day workshop for 40 university teachers and related administrative staff members who may wish to implement service-learning programs in their departments/units
    • Topics to cover range from program design to implementation, reflection and evaluation, assessment on student achievement, and university-community partnerships
    Months 5-8
    • A valuable set of data on the service-learning programs designed/implemented by the participants, with information on program design, pedagogy, reflection and evaluation, logistical support and university-community partnerships
    Month 9
    • A one-day symposium for sharing and disseminating the participants’ good practices in service-learning

    Arrangements for evaluation of project deliverables/outcomes

    • Participants’ responses to evaluation questionnaires for the three-day training workshop and one-day symposium
    • Registration/attendance records for the three-day training workshop and one-day symposium
    • Survey on the service-learning programs designed/implemented by the participants

    Means for disseminating project deliverables/outcomes

    A one-day symposium for reporting findings of the survey on the participants’ service-learning programs and for sharing and disseminating their good practices and exemplary programs
