Project Objectives
The project aims at supplementing the conventional resistance training course of the University Physical Education (PE) Core Requirement by providing supplementary resistance training knowledge to students through a web-based approach.
Description of process, outcomes or deliverables
Meetings (on 14 September 2015, 26 October 2015 and 2 December 2015 respectively) were held between the PE Unit and the video shooting crew. An e-booklet was written during this period. For the video production, the content was based on the e-booklet and the shooting dates were scheduled on 21 December 2015 and 30 December 2015. After the first version of videos was produced, a training workshop for PE Unit lecturers was organized on 17 February 2016. After collecting feedback from lecturers, the final version of videos was produced. Then, lecturers distributed the video link to students of each required PE course. Approximately 4,000 students and staff can watch the videos, including (1) Warm-up Exercises & Safety Precautions; (2) Aerobic Exercises; and (3) Resistance Training by logging in the PE Unit website.
Evaluation
Our objectives have been achieved. Most of the students agreed that all videos were easy to understand, interesting and informative. Besides, the videos can enhance their knowledge towards warm-up exercises, safety precautions, aerobic exercises and resistance training.
Dissemination, diffusion and impact
Teachers can watch the videos with students during class or post the video links on Blackboard for students’ self-learning. With updates of the project materials, students (and alumni) can pursue continuous learning of resistance training through the online videos. Flipped classroom activities have been conducted when students have extended their learning by watching the relevant videos themselves with teachers’ guidance or instructions. Students can learn much more in-depth knowledge of resistance training at their convenience by making good use of the online videos.
