Abstract
To facilitate and promote eLearning, the University has been supporting the Academic IT Steering Committee (AITSC) in the establishment of the Courseware Development Grant Scheme (CDGS) since 2000 to support teachers to work on CDGS projects. Due to the change of the IT governance structure of the University, the Subcommittee on Education Technologies of the IT Governance Committee (ITGC-SET) has taken up the works of AITSC. This project continues to sustain the CDGS.
The aim of CDGS is to encourage teachers to move forward from the basic use of eLearning towards developing more sophisticated or more complete eLearning environments for their students. CDGS is an annual competitive-based scheme administered by ITGC-SET, and a Task Force is established to oversee its implementation. The Courseware Development Grant (CDG) Task Force invites applications from members of the teaching staff for projects funded under this allocation each year. CDGS could help facilitate teachers to fully utilize the potential of eLearning and hence obtain better return on the investment that CUHK has made in developing the infrastructure and supporting service.
Brief write-up
Project objectives
This project aims to encourage teachers to move forward from the basic use of eLearning towards developing more sophisticated or more complete eLearning environments for their students. Courseware Development Grant Scheme (CDGS) is an annual competitive-based scheme administered by the Subcommittee on Education Technologies of the IT Governance Committee (ITGC-SET), and a Task Force is established to oversee its implementation. The Courseware Development Grant (CDG) Task Force invites applications from members of the teaching staff for projects funded under this allocation each year. The project has met its objectives.
Activities, process and outcomes
ITGC-SET has invited applications from teaching staff members for projects funded under this allocation (CDGS) three times during the project period. In summary, 39 CDGS projects were granted in this project with a total grant amount of $3,000,000.
Deliverables and evaluation
All the project leaders should submit a final report and a brief write-up to ITGC-SET (by June 2019). ITGC-SET will carry out a meta-analysis of all CDGS projects, and a questionnaire will be administered to all (2016-19) grant awardees to collect feedback. A self-reflection/evaluation report based on the results of the meta-analysis and the questionnaire results will be compiled in June 2019.
Dissemination, diffusion, impact and sharing of good practices
A website http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/eLearning/c_tnl/cdgs/index.html has been set up. Information of all the CDGS projects from 2007 to 2019 is available on the website.
Ten (10) project leaders have showcased their project deliverables to members of the University through the presentations at the Teaching and Learning Innovation ExPo jointly organized by Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research and the Information Technology Services Centre (ExPo 2017 and ExPo 2018). It is expected that with the completion of remaining projects by June 2019, more project leaders would share their educational experience and insights with peers at ExPo 2019 in December 2019.
