Abstract

Objectives and Outcomes:

  • To engage PhD students in academic ownership and collaboration with different teaching initiatives of individual courses enhanced by AR technology.
  • To facilitate self-directed teaching and learning among postgraduate students as teaching partners on the application of AR-DT in different architectural courses and projects.
  • To document the application of AR-DT learning in short tutorial clips as self-accessible materials for continuous teaching development among ALL students.
  • To provide state-of-the-art training of AR technology and necessary instruments and integrate with design thinking in School of Architecture for ALL students.

Deliverables:

  • ONE training session for champion postgraduate students on the application of AR technologies by PhD students (Co-Supervisors) and Professors in each semester.
  • ONE assignment for EACH selected architectural course on AR-DT application taught by the champion postgraduate students.
  • ONE short video documentation of EACH assignment by ALL participating students.
  • ONE online video archive of AR-DT applications as self-accessible learning materials.
  • TWO post-teaching evaluation on student’s satisfaction on the project in each semester.

Brief write-up

Project objectives

To engage postgraduate students in academic ownership and collaboration with different teaching initiatives of individual courses, facilitate self-directed teaching and learning activities, document the application of AR-DT learning, provide state-of-the-art training and integrate with design thinking in the School of Architecture.

Activities, process and outcomes

Online and face-to-face workshops, seminars, reviews, software testing on and off campus, YouTube channel, application in funded research projects and existing curriculum.

Deliverables and evaluation

Training sessions and workshops are delivered. Short videos of application by students are documented. One online questionnaire on perception of AR-DT completed. Essential hardware and configuration for AR are readily available for students.

Dissemination, diffusion, impact and sharing of good practices

YouTube channel is set up and short videos are uploaded. One media coverage (RTHK interview) in a rural revitalization research project.

Impact on teaching and learning

Students are motivated to try out new tools, implement and integrate with their own projects. Use of AR tools facilitated hybrid learning during pandemic outbreak, where face-to-face interactions are minimized. Integration with existing curriculum is demonstrated without adding extra workloads to teachers.
