The Campus Master Plan has gone through several stages:

1.

The Founding Phase (1963 – 1969) with Development Plan by W. Szeto & Partners

2.

The Growth Phase (1970 – 1986) based on W. Szeto & Partner's Development Plan

3.

The Rapid Expansion Phase (1987 – 1991) with the addition of the new Shaw College at Northern Campus and expansion towards Eastern Campus on the newly reclaimed land while redevelopment of old buildings taken place in Chung Chi Campus

4.

The Campus Master Development Plan for Year 2000 – a 5 years of study (1991 – 1995) by the Ad Hoc Working Group on Campus Master Development

1991 - Campus student facilities by OSA
1992 - Setting up Design Committee for vetting of new developments
1993 -

Preliminary report on Campus Planning Study covering

  • Landscape and Environment
  • New Sites and Guidelines for Development
  • Provision of Community Facilities on Campus

1994 - Campus Planning Study Maps covering

The Campus Planning and Design

Master Plan and Design Studies 2000

These two studies were carried out by the Campus Planning and Design Study Group led by Prof. Jack Sidener of Department of Architecture and presented to the CPC at its Special Meetings (1/99) on 26/2/1999 and (1/2000) on 1/3/2000.

As further discussed at the CPC 37th (19/7/2001) and 38th (3/9/2001) meetings, in preparation for the 4-year normative curriculum reform, Department of Architecture was requested to proceed with the refinement of the Campus Master Plan with the support of a half time post to take charge of the project.

6. Campus Master Planning 2003

Taking up from the Campus Planning and Design Study Group, the APU (Architectural Project Unit) formerly DRU (Design Research Unit) led by Prof. Liu Yuyang of the Department of Architecture defined the vision of Campus Master Planning as the complimentary qualities of the Rustic, the Monastic, and the Urbane; APU presented its preliminary approach to CPC at its 50th (3/4/2003) and conceptual framework subsequently at 52nd (19/6/2003) meetings.

7. Working Group on Campus Master Planning

At the 53rd (17/7/2003) meeting, a Working Group on Campus Master Planning was set up under CPC to oversee the development progress of the Campus Master Planning exercise.
