In capitalist societies, profit making is essential to the survival of media. In order to solve the issue of "profit without responsibility" in journalism, four parties have a role to play, namely, government, journalists, media proprietors, and audience. Although government can clean up the sensational media content quickly, it poses a serious threat to press freedom. Journalists must be upright, ethical and socially responsible to guard against irresponsible press. However, if media owners put profit above all considerations and ignore the social role of media, journalists cannot do much to run a healthy and responsible media. Furthermore, the enjoyable consumption of sensational media by the audience who are not conscious of the impact of their choice on society and their young children also constitutes an important factor for the prevalence of sensational contents in media.

Despite the tremendous growth opportunities of the Chinese firms listed in Hong Kong, they have distinct challenges in their governance structures. Professor Wong will first explain that these distinct challenges are intricately linked with the economic environment in which these firms operate. He will then discuss the value of the Hong Kong market to these Chinese listed firms. As compared with the Shanghai and Shenzhen markets, the Hong Kong market that facilitates free flow of information and emphasizes high degree of professionalism helps to improve the Chinese firms' corporate governance.
