Professor John LEE was graduated form the Department of Geography and Geology, The University of Hong Kong. He obtained a Master of Science degree at the University of Oxford and a PhD from CUHK. He also has a Diploma in Education (Distinctions) and a Master of Arts (Education) degree. Professor LEE joined CUHK's Department of Curriculum and Instruction 1994. Currently he is Professor, Associate Director of the Centre for University and School Partnership and member of Assembly of Fellows of United College. He was Visiting Scholar at the University of Cambridge and Teachers College, Columbia University, Honorary Professor of Southwest Normal University, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Hong Kong Educational Research Association, Vice-Chairman of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (Hong Kong), Advisor of Primary Chinese Language Education Research Association, Member of Advisory Committee on School Based Management, Education Department, Adjudicator, Outstanding School Award Adjudication Panel, and Member, Board of Directors, Educational Foundation, Federation of Alumni Associations, CUHK. He obtained grants of about 95 million for two large-scale school improvement projects supported by the Quality Education Project. He was the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Accelerated Schools Project and Co-Director of University and School Partnership for Quality Education Project. Professor Lee was the Chief Editor and Executive Editors of three local refereed journals as well as advisory editors of two Asian journals. His research interests are curriculum development, school improvement, teacher effectiveness and environmental education. He was the author and co-author of four books and numerous articles in overseas journals. He was the recipient of The Vice-Chancellor's Exemplary Teaching Award 1999 in 2000. Professor Leo LAU received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from CUHK, and his PhD and Postdoctoral Fellowship from University of British Columbia in 1982 and 1983. He joined CUHK in 1997 as Professor of Materials Science and has been Chairman of the Department of Physics since 1998. A staunch promoter of University-industry technology transfer, Professor LAU is instrumental to the establishment of the Advanced Surface and Materials Analysis Centre at CUHK, of which he is the Director. He is also Director of the Institute of Science and Technology and Director of the Materials Science & Technology Research Centre at CUHK. A prolific scientist, Professor LAU has authored over 160 refereed publications and owned two US patents granted and licensed, with two additional US patents pending. He has trained 6 Doctors of Philosophy and 15 postdoctoral fellows. His areas of specialization cover physical chemistry, surface and materials science. Since 1998, he has led over 10 projects in these areas and secured external funding of over HK$34 million. Professor LAU is also actively involving in academic organizations in materials research. He is council member of the Hong Kong Materials Research Society, Hong Kong Metal Finishing Society, and Hong Kong Institute of Science, and is also Chairman of the Advisory Board on Testing Consumer Products, Hong Kong Accreditation Scheme.
