Mrs Pamela Chan graduated from the Department of Social Work of CUHK in 1968. She later obtained a law degree from Peking University in 1994. After graduation, she worked for Foster Parents' Plan, Inc., the Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers, and the Department of Social Work of CUHK. In 1975, she became the General Secretary of the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong. Then in 1985, she joined the Hong Kong Consumer Council as the Chief Executive to date. Mrs Pamela Chan has been dedicated to community services and has a deep concern for social development in Hong Kong. Currently, she is serving as a member on various Boards and Committees which include the Board of Directors of The Community Chest, the Deposit-taking Companies Advisory Committee, the Estate Agents Authority, the Advisory Committee on Travel Agents, the Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board, the Hong Kong Housing Authority, and the Appeals Tribunal of the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers. Mrs Chan is a member of the Working Party on Civil Justice Reform of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Steering Committee on the Review of Legal Education and Training in Hong Kong, the Law Society of Hong Kong. She is also an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Professional Legal Education of The University of Hong Kong and Member of the PCLL Academic Board of The University of Hong Kong and the City University of Hong Kong. Previously, she served as the Chairperson of the Hong Kong Council of Social Services, and Member of the Hospital Authority Board. In 1979, Mrs Chan received the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award. She was elected President of the Consumers International from 1997 to 2000, an international body consisting of 250 consumer organizations in 115 countries. In recognition of her contribution to the protection of consumer rights, Mrs Pamela Chan was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the Government of HKSAR in 1998, as well as a Gold Award by the China Consumer Association in 2000. Since her graduation in 1968, Mrs Pamela Chan has maintained close ties with her alma mater. She has made a generous donation to the Wong Fook Luen Memorial Scholarships of Chung Chi College since 1987 and was one of the speakers at the Outstanding Alumni Lecture series of the 40th Anniversary of Chung Chi College in 1991. From 2000 to 2003, Mrs Chan was a Mentor of the Mentorship Programme of Chung Chi College, widening the horizons and exposures of her mentees in the College with her extensive knowledge and experience. She also participated enthusiastically in the organization of the CUHK 40th Anniversary celebration activities in 2003. Over the years, Mrs Chan has contributed generously her time and effort to the advancement of both Chung Chi College and the Chinese University.
