Dr Yung Kung Hing graduated from the Department of Chemistry of Chung Chi College in 1959. He obtained his degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California, Riverside in USA in 1965 and 1968 respectively. He then joined the University of California, Davis to conduct research in plant sciences. In 1969, Dr Yung returned to Hong Kong to serve as Lecturer and Chairman of the Department of Biology of CUHK. Later, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer and served as the Dean of Students of Chung Chi College. Dr Yung retired in 1996 and has since continued to serve CUHK as a Senior College Tutor of Chung Chi College. A much respected teacher, Dr Yung Kung Hing has been generous with his valuable advice to youngsters. Over the years, Dr Yung has contributed significantly to the development of Chung Chi College. He has served as Dean of Students, Member of the Assembly of Fellows, Member of the Academic Board, Member of the Campus Environment Committee, and Member of the Non-Resident Hall Committee of the College. In order to enhance students' language ability and interest to learn Chinese and English, he pioneered English and Putonghua Tables as well as language enhancement study tour programmes, for example in the Mainland, United Kingdom and North America, in Chung Chi College. In recent years, especially after his retirement, Dr Yung has continued to render services to Chung Chi College in areas such as student development, academic programs and campus improvement projects. Many of the important building and development projects on Chung Chi campus were realized under the close supervision of Dr Yung. His devotion towards the well being of Chung Chi College and its students is well appreciated by fellow staff members and students.
