Dr Wang graduated from the Department of Chemistry of Chung Chi College in 1960. After graduation, he joined the Hong Kong Government Information Services as Government Information Officer. In 1968, he inherited the management of Salon Films from his father. Under Dr Wang's capable leadership, Salon Films has become a leading force in the local film industry, producing high quality films, commercials and documentaries. Over the years, Salon Films has been repeatedly appointed by the Hong Kong Government as a major contractor of promotional videos. It has also participated in the production of a number of major Hollywood and other international motion pictures. Dr Charles Wang is committed to public and community services. He is currently Member of the Film Services Advisory Committee of HKSAR, Committee Member of the Fundraising & Promotion Committee for the Agency for Volunteer Service, Member of Sub-Committee on Promotion and Publicity on Volunteer Service of Social Welfare Department, Honorary President of Yau Tsim DA of Hong Kong Girl Guides Association, and Member of Corporate and Employee Contribution Programme Committee of The Community Chest of Hong Kong. In 1996, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration and Management, honoris causa, by the Southern California University for Professional Studies, USA. In the same year, he was appointed Chevalier de L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government for his contribution to cinema. As a member of the Board of Trustees of Chung Chi College since 1990, Dr. Charles Wang has been a staunch supporter of his alma mater. He sponsored the shooting of video "Introduction to Chung Chi College" for the College's 40th and 45th Anniversary, and the photo exhibition at its 40th Anniversary. He has also donated the Chung Chi Scholarship for Excellence since 1999 and has been a sponsor of graduation photos for the college for many years. Dr Wang was Chairman of Chung Chi College Alumni Association from 1998 to 2000. He has contributed his experience and insight as Mentor to Chung Chi students since 1999. Since 1993, Dr Wang has been appointed a member of the Standing Committee, and convener of the Fundraising Sub-Committee of the CUHK Convocation. Under Dr Wang's capable leadership, the Fundraising Sub-Committee has launched several successful fundraising projects, such as charity film screenings and round-the-campus walk, which have raised considerable funds for the development of his alma mater.
