Five Distinguished Persons Honoured
by CUHK
The Chinese University of Hong Kong will confer honorary doctorates on five
distinguished persons at its 57th Congregation to be held on Thursday, 29
November 2001. They are Dr the Honourable Anson
Chan
, Former Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative
Region Government: Mr Gao Xingjian
, renowned Chinese writer and Nobel Laureate in Literature 2000;
Professor Yuan Longping
, an eminent agricultural scientist and Director General of China National
Hybrid Rice Research and Development Centre; Mr Hung
Hon-cheung
, George
, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Chung Chi College and an alumnus of
the University who has rendered long and outstanding service to the University
and the College; and Ms Eleanor Wong
, a well-known textile industrialist and philanthropist.
Dr Chan will be conferred the degree
of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa. Mr Gao will be conferred the
degree of Doctor of Literature, honoris causa. Professor Yuan will
receive the degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa.
Mr Hung and Ms Wong will each be awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Science,
honoris causa.
