¡@¡@Mr Shum obtained the degree of Master of Arts in Economics from New York University in the USA and is currently Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Enterprises Group Limited. He has been Publisher of Wah Kiu Yat Po and served in the newspaper company for 40 some years, making enormous contributions to the development of the newspaper journal. He enjoys a high reputation and has undertaken various important positions in the media organizations. They include Chairman of the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong, Chairman of the Chinese Language Press Institute and Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Committee of International Press Institute. ¡@¡@Mr Shum Choi Sang's participation in territory-wide charities and public services has also been extensive. Mr Shum is Vice-Patron of the Community Chest of Hong Kong and Advisory Committee Member of Hong Kong Red Cross, and has been the Chairman and a member of the Hong Kong Eastern District Board. Mr Shum is also a member of the governing bodies of a number of tertiary institutions, schools and kindergartens. In recognition of the enormous contribution Mr Shum has made to the community, Mr Shum was awarded Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. In 2002, he was honoured with the Silver Bauhinia Star. ¡@¡@The long and distinguished
service of Mr Shum at the Chinese University and its United College
dated back to as early as 1963, when Mr Shum first joined the Board
of Trustees of United College as a member. He has served as Chairman
of the College's Board of Trustees from 1995 until now. Mr Shum was
appointed as a member of the University Council of the Chinese University
in 1992. In appreciation of the remarkable contribution and generous
donation of Mr Shum, the United College's archival exhibition was named
"The Shum Choi Sang United College Archives" and was officially opened
by Mr Shum in 1999.
