¡@¡@Mr Tam is a pioneer in the semiconductor industry in Hong Kong, and has been heavily involved in the development of advanced technology in Hong Kong. He joined the Motorola Semiconductors in Hong Kong in 1968, and became the first Chinese to be General Manager of Motorola Semiconductor Products in the Asia Pacific in 1980. He was instrumental in major facility build-up of Motorola Semiconductors' Silicon Harbour Center in Hong Kong. He retired from Motorola in 2002 after over 33 years of services. In April 2002, he joined Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation as Chief Executive Officer. ¡@¡@Mr Tam has been active in promoting science and technology in Hong Kong. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Technology Committee, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Limited and a Member of the Innovation and Technology Fund Nanotechnology Projects Vetting Committee. ¡@¡@Mr Tam has also maintained very close links with the Faculty of Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was a former Member of the Advisory Committee on Electronics and contributed his time and invaluable advice to the University to assist the University in establishing the Faculty of Engineering. He delivered a speech at the Conference on "Future of Photonics in Hong Kong" to mark the Opening Ceremony for the Institute of Optical Science and Technology and Photonic Packaging Laboratory at CUHK in November 2002. He joined the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Engineering of CUHK in April 2002. ¡@¡@Mr Tam has made outstanding
contribution to the local technology development. He was selected for
Ten Outstanding Young Person's Award in 1984. In 1992, he was awarded
Member of Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. |
