- Hb-H disease is one type of alpha-thalassaemia with inactivation of 3 of the 4 alleles
- Note the "Golf-ball" appearance of the red cells (cells with HbH inclusion bodies) with
supervital stain after prolonged incubation. They are diagnostic of alpha-thalassaemias
- The decreased alpha-chain production leads to relative excess of beta-chains which lead to
the formation of HbH, the tetramers of the beta-chain
