Facilities

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is equipped with the state-of-the art facilities and expertise committed to the advancement of E-Commerce and logistics technologies, as well as to the education and training of a new generation of talents in both the business and technology aspects of E-Commerce and logistics management.

The Faculty of Engineering has established the Centre for Logistics Technologies and Supply Chain Optimization (LOGITSCO) with generous sponsorship from a number of business corporations (including Oracle and SUN Microsystems). LOGITSCO is assuming a leadership role in the research and development of E-Commerce and logistics technologies and applications. Through its R&D projects, LOGITSCO is helping local firms (including those in banking, manufacturing, retail and other service sectors) in training, consulting, business re-engineering, and system development and deployment. These projects also provide excellent opportunities for students to acquire hands-on experience in industrial projects.

LOGITSCO is supplemented by other cutting-edge lab facilities within the Engineering Faculty, e.g., labs for financial engineering and for supply chain management, which provide advanced hardware and software systems to support research, industrial applications, and teaching programmes that relate to E-Commerce and logistics management. In the Financial Engineering Lab, a bank of high-end computers are fully connected with a high-speed network that receives a large amount of financial data. Software facilities are also available for simulation of the trading floor activities. These facilities are currently used in projects on financial information systems, index and growth-rate tracking, data mining for portfolio/asset selection, and other applications of e-commerce technologies in financial services. The lab for supply chain management and enterprise resource planning is equipped with industrial strength software systems to support research and teaching activities on enterprise solutions, logistics and supply chain management, and business to business e-commerce operations.
