Talks of 3 cities. Finding home in books.
A city is like a floating island. Dwellers wander rootlessly, taking in whatever
which take their fancy. So are the melancholy towards a place called ‘home”.
Some find refuge in the razzle-dazzle of an extravagant life, some on the streets
of a bustling city. There are others who are flaneurs, swimming in the ocean
of words. To be a flaneur is always a lone endeavour. Yet, aloneness enables
one to live in each and every era – as Mr. Tang Chun-I says. Reading is finding
a home in books. Zhou Guoping meets Nietzsche. Wu Ming-Yi seeks haven in
books of the environment. Margaret Ng talks of Jin Yong’s world. Three flanuers
from Beijing, Taiwan and Hong Kong see their homes in books, trying to ease
the melancholy of perplexed city life. Let’s join them on 7th, March to embark
on the journey of books, just like Odysseus.
