Kang Youwei (K'ang Yu-wei) 康有為 1858-1927

Kang Youwei (1858-1927) a native of Guangdong province, is probably best known for leading the Reform of 1898 with his student Liang Qichao 梁啟超 (1873–1929). After the failure of the reform he had to flee the country, during the course of which he complied the significant and controversial Datong shu 大同書 [Book of great harmony], published by Zhonghua shuju posthumously in 1935. He played a critical role in the intellectual development of early-Republican China, and wrote extensively on topics such as Chinese classics, philosophy, and politics.
