Lin Cantian ªL°Ñ¤Ñ 1904¡V1972

Born in Zhejiang, had been a voracious reader of literature since childhood. He travelled to Singapore in 1927 and left very soon to teach at a Chinese school in Terengganu on the east coast of today¡¦s Peninsular Malaysia. Writing remained an avocation for Lin, who finally settled down in Kuala Lumpur and stayed engaged with local Chinese education for over three decades before his retirement in 1964. He is the author of Nongyan ¿@·Ï [Thick smoke] (1936), which is commonly regarded as the earliest novel of modern Singapore and Malaysian Chinese literature.
