Wang Anyi 1954-

Wang is currently the chairperson of the Shanghai Writers¡¦ Association and a professor in Fudan University. Born in 1954 as the daughter of the noted writer Ru Zhijuan ¯ø§ÓÃY, Wang was brought up in Shanghai but first began writing and publishing short stories as a member of a local performing arts troupe in Xuzhou, Jiangsu. After returning to Shanghai in 1978, she served as editor of a literary journal. Wang Anyi became a professional writer in 1980. Much of her work is about women in Shanghai. Her works include Yu, sha sha sha «B¡A¨F¨F¨F [And the rain patters on] (1980), and her ¡¥romance trilogy¡¦ Huangshan zhi lian ¯î¤s¤§ÅÊ [Love on a barren mountain] (1986), Xiaocheng zhi lian ¤p«°¤§ÅÊ [Love in a small town] (1986), and Jinxiugu zhi lian ÀA¸¨¦¤§ÅÊ [Love in brocade valley] (1987).
