Yang Wanli 楊萬里 (1127-1206)

An important poet of the early Southern Song dynasty, was born in Jishui, present-day Jiangxi province. After obtaining his jinshi degree in 1154, he served several minor official posts, the highest being academician in the Hall for Treasuring the Heritage. In terms of poetry writing, he began by imitating the Jiangxi School of Poetry 江西詩派, but eventually developed his own unique style, which features spontaneity and a zest for living. His surviving 133 juan of poems and prose are compiled in Chengzhai ji 誠齋集 [Collected works of Chengzhai].
