Engaging Science Students in the Design & Enactment of Assessment
Introduction

Case Studies (September 2005 to June 2007)
Case studies were conducted in a number of science courses (see the page Case Studies for a summary of case studies completed).

Seminar (23 November 2005)
A seminar was held on 23 November 2005. Colleagues from the Faculty of Science and Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong participated in the seminar. The main theme of the seminar was “Assessment”. Some basic concepts in relation to assessment, such as SOLO taxonomy, constructive alignment, authentic assessment, outcome-based assessment were discussed.

Development of an Assessment Criterion Bank (September 2005 - June 2007)
Through conducting a number of case studies in science subjects, we have established an assessment criterion bank that stores a whole range of assessment criteria for assessing various learning activities.

Development of a User-Friendly Assessment System (June 2006 -September 2007)
A user-friendly assessment system had been developed and is undergoing improvement. The system assisted teachers to use the assessment model in a more efficient and convenient manner.

Workshop (19 October 2006)
A workshop was held on 19 October 2006. Colleagues from the Faculty of Science and Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong participated in the workshop. The experiences in implementing the assessment model in several courses were shared. Evaluation results that were obtained through a systematic analysis of feedback data were examined with a view to improving the assessment model. The user-friendly assessment system was introduced.
