Opera Performance
Co-organized by the Shanghai Fraternity Association,
Shaw College, and the Office of The Arts Administrator
Captioned performance received a full house of more than 400 participants
on April 16, 2005 at the Lecture Theatre. The performance
by members of Shanghai Fraternity Association and professional artists
from Mainland China was very well received. With the participation
of Mr. Lee Woo Sing, Chairman of the Shanghai Fraternity
Association and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shaw College,
and Mrs. Lee, a total 15 songs were performed.
It was also an honour to have Ms Lan Wen Yun and
Ms Qiu Yun, both nationally acclaimed performers from the
Mainland, to take part in paying homage to the Beijing operatic
art. |

| Opening Ceremony of the “Shanghai Theatre Academy Beijing Opera Exhibition”
The Opening Ceremony of “Shanghai Theatre Academy Beijing
Opera Exhibition” was held on April 16, 2005.
We were honored to have invited Mr. Hardy Tsoi, the Arts
Administrator of CUHK and member of the College Life Promotion Committee
of Shaw College, and Mr. Ye Gong Shun, Vice-headmaster
of Beijing Opera School of the Shanghai Theatre Academy
to officiate at the ribbon-cutting ceremony accompanied by
Mr Lee Woo Sing, Chairman of the Shanghai Fraternity Association,
Prof. P.C. Ching, Head of Shaw College, Mr Wang Shi Chang, Senior
Lecturer of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and Mr. Yang Chang Yi
of the Shanghai Fraternity Association.

New Trustees Appointed
Shaw College welcomes the joining of the below-listed new
members of the Board of Trustees whose membership took
effect from February 19, 2005 for a term of three
years.
(i) Mr. Patrick Fung Yuk-bun(left), Chairman
and Chief Executive of Wing Hang Bank, Ltd., Hong Kong;
(ii) Dr. Nelson Yu Yui-chiu(right), senior partner
of Messrs. Yu, Tsang & Loong, Solicitors and Notaries.

Extended Service Hours of College Information Counter(Trial)
To offer more comprehensive counter service at Shaw College, service
hours at Shaw College Information Counter (LG 1 Wen Lan
Tang) will be extended from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. (Monday to Friday)
from March 1 to May 31, 2005 on a trial basis.
Feedback gathered during the trial period will help to determine
the development of the College’s counter service provision in the
future. During the trial period, the Information Counter
continues to open at 9:00am on weekdays. Service hours on Saturday
remain from 9:00am to 12:30pm. |

Improvement Works at Shaw College Round-about and Car Park
An improvement works will be carried out at Shaw College round about and car park (adjacent to Ya Qun Lodge) from May 30 to June 23, 2005. During the construction, the car park and round about will be closed in different phases for paving. The following venues will be closed temporarily during the construction:

Installation of Security and Monitoring System
In order to enhance the campus security and management, a security
and monitoring system will be installed in Wen Lan Tang, Lecture
Theatre and sports facilities at Kuo Mou Hall. After the installation,
opening hours of various student facilities will be extended
The said system will be installed in late May and the installation
will be completed in early August tentatively. During the installation,
noise will be produced. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Wireless
LAN Coverage at Shaw College
CUHK students and staff can now access Internet by ClassNet
on the College campus. Coverage of wireless LAN includes podium
of Wen Lan Tang, the round-about, covered foyer of Kuo Mou Hall,
Dr. Tan Siu-lin Terrace and Lecture Theatre information counter. |
