Lecture Series by Scholarship
Recipients―Rhodes Scholar Lecture The Rhodes Scholar Lecture was held on Tuesday, 22 September 2009. The speakers included were Rhodes Scholar from UC, Mr William Wong Ming-fung, Barrister-at-Law and Senior College Tutor, Professor Jeremiah Wong. The guest shared their advise and experience of Rhodes Scholarship application in the lecture. The Q&A session of the audience to the guest was well received. |

The United College Globe-Oriented
Active Learning (GOAL) Programme Applications are now open for the College overseas exchange programmes tenable in 2010/2011 academic year. The number of College exchange places has been increased to 20 (exchange period of one year as basis) in 2010-11., The Universite Catholique de Lille in France, The Kansai University in Japan, The Pusan National University in Korea, The University of Bergen in Norway, The Universitat Pompeu Fabra of Spain and University of Gothenburg in Sweden have become new exchange partners of the College. For further details, please refer to the College notice boards, visit the College homepage or the Dean of Students' Office. The closing date for application is 3 November 2009. The College will organise a Briefing Session on College Exchange Programmes on 30 October 2009 at 11:30am at C1, TC Cheng Building. Returning exchange students of the College will also attend the Session to share their overseas experience with the College students. United College Toastmasters Club The Inauguration Ceremony cum Demonstration Meeting of United College Toastmasters Club (UCTMC) was held on 21 September 2009 at UCC2, T C Cheng Building. Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, Mr Sean Lin, Division K Governor and Mr Jake Tang, Area K3 Governor, Toastmasters International Hong Kong delivered their congratulatory messages in the ceremony. 書院粵語辯論隊奪明辯盃 一年一度，由香港城市大學辯論隊與書院粵語辯論隊合辦的友誼辯論比賽「明辯盃」於10月2日晚上假香港城市大學舉行，題目為大專生「港府應進一步開放大氣電波」。結果書院辯論隊以二比一勝出，書院謹致衷心祝賀。 |

College Cantonese Debate Team Won
the "Min Ben Cup" The annual friendly debate match organised by the Debate Team of City University of Hong Kong and the College's Cantonese Debate Team, "Min Ben Cup" was held on Friday, 2 October 2009 at City University. The motion was "The Hong Kong Government should further open the broadcasting channels".The College Debate Team won the match by two to one.Hearty congratulations to the College Cantonese Debate Team. |

United College Dinner The United College Dinner was first launched in 2006 and its main objective is to facilitate more interactions between the College staff and students outside class. It is a part of the College non-formal education. United College 36th Swimming Gala The 2009-10 Swimming Gala was held successfully on Wednesday,30 September 2009. Over 120 students joined the competitions, representing the six hostels/non-residential halls. A number of guests attended the Opening Ceremony. The College Head Professor Fung Kwok-pui presented prizes to winners, and the colleagues of the College joined to cheer up teams performing very well the whole night. The champion team for the Swimming Gala was Hang Seng Hall. The best cheering team prizes were presented to Ping Fan Hall and Bethlehem Hall. United College 36th Swimming Gala Overall Results:

UC Students won the Championship of
the CIMA Global Business Challenge College students, Mr Chan Yin-fung (BBA/2), Mr Lai Chun-sang (BBA/2) and their two team members defeated seven regional champions from the UK, Ireland, Sri Lanka, India, mainland China, Malaysia and Singapore to win the Global Final of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Global Business Challenge held in August, with a case study of saving the business of a moribund resort chain. |

Orientation Day for Undergraduate
Admissions The Orientation Day for Undergraduate Admissions was held on 10 October 2009. The College student hostels, Wu Chung Multimedia Library, Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory, Shum Choi Sang United College Archives, Thomas H C Cheung Gymnasium and the College sports facilities were opened for visit. Over a thousand secondary school students and their parents visited the College campus on that day. |

UC Shum Choi Sang Mentorship
Programme 2009-10 The selection result of UC Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme 2009-10 was released in September 2009. The Programme is jointly organised by the United College and the UC Alumni Association, aims to create close supportive mentoring relationships between alumni of United College and its undergraduates over a period of one year. In order to enable all participants to have a better understanding of the objectives and activities of the Programme, the Programme Coordinating Committee organised two briefing sessions for the mentors and mentees in October 14 and 16. The 10th Anniversary cum Inauguration Dinner will be held on 5 November 2009 at the Royal Plaza Hotel. |
