Special Arrangements for COVID-19

As the pandemic continues to evolve, arrangements for incoming students may change frequently. Please visit this webpage and the HKSAR Government (the Government) dedicated website on COVID-19 regularly for the latest arrangements.

A. Travelling to Hong Kong

Q1. How long should I be in quarantine? Is there any proof that I need to show before boarding the plane?

- The Government has categorised specified places into different groups and listed the respective boarding and quarantine requirements. You can check which group you belong to on this website and make the necessary travel plan according to the requirements.

- You may wish to allow for some flexibility in your travel plan due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.

Q2. I have already been fully vaccinated in where I live. How do I know if that vaccine is recognised by the Hong Kong Government?

- You can visit this website for the list of COVID-19 vaccines recognised by the Government.

- Please check this website to understand the requirement of the documentary proof and the definition of “fully vaccinated”.

Q3. Should I take the COVID-19 vaccines before coming to Hong Kong?

- We strongly encourage you to be fully vaccinated before coming to Hong Kong if any vaccines that are recognised by the Hong Kong Government are available in where you live now. That could help you save the time, cost and hassle in terms of hotel quarantine or/and COVID-19 tests required by your hostel.

Q4. Which hotels can I book for my quarantine in Hong Kong?

- You can check the details of designated hotels on this website if you are required to undergo compulsory quarantine in a designated hotel. Please visit this website for the list and fees of the hotels.

- As the availability of the hotel rooms is, especially during the summer holiday, very limited, you may wish to finalise your travel plan and make your bookings at your own expense as soon as possible.

Q5. How do I get to the designated quarantine location from the airport?

- The Government will arrange designated transport to your quarantine hotel from the Arrivals Hall of the airport. For the detailed procedures after arriving at the airport, please visit this website.

B. Studying at CUHK

1. Campus Accommodation

Q6.  Is there any COVID-19 special arrangements for living on campus?

- With the shared public facilities in hostels and therefore its relatively easy transmission of virus among residents, students residing on campus are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The hostel arrangements depend on whether you have been fully vaccinated or not:

If you have NOT been vaccinated: undergo an entry test before your admission to a hostel and a COVID-19 test every two weeks afterwards at your own expense
If you have been fully vaccinated for more than 14 days: you will be exempted from regular testing

- CUHK offers a collegiate system and has nine colleges in total. Each college manages their own hostels and all students will be assigned to one of the colleges. To check which college you have been assigned to, you can login to your student account (provided that you have successfully completed student registration) for the official result on or after 26 August 2021. More information on college assignment can be found here

2. COVID-19 testing centres and fees

Q7. I am required to do a COVID-19 test after the quarantine. Where can I do the COVID-19 test?

- If your quarantine requirement indicates that you have to do compulsory testing after your hotel quarantine or you have to do such testing as required by your hostel, you may check the following websites for the test centres and its fees.

COVID-19 Community Testing Centres (Public), HK$240 per test
Union Hospital (Private), HK$1,000 per test
Hong Kong Baptist Hospital (Private), HK$1,080 per test

3. Mode of Teaching

Q8. Will classes be delivered online or face-to-face?

- The default mode of teaching for courses offered in 1st term 2021-2022 will be face-to-face and students are expected to attend all classes and related activities in-person.

4. COVID-19 Regulations Across the City

Q9. Are there any rules and regulations against the spread of COVID-19 that I should observe while living in Hong Kong?

Mandatory Mask Wearing
- In Hong Kong, a person must wear a mask at all times in public area (no matter indoors or outdoors). As of early June 2021, there is abundant supply of face masks in the city and they can be easily purchased at different shops.
