Transportation and Maps


Octopus Card

You are strongly advised to purchase an Octopus debit card to facilitate your transport in Hong Kong. These may be purchased from customer service counters at Mass Transit Railway (MTR; metro) stations, as well as at the Arrival Hall of the Hong Kong International Airport. The Octopus can be used in most all public transportation in Hong Kong, as well as in most convenience stores, supermarkets, etc. Please visit the following link for more information: http://www.octopus.com.hk

Note: all transportation costs quoted below assume that you are using an Octopus Card. Single journey tickets are generally more expensive. Before you leave Hong Kong, remember to return your Octopus to one of the customer service counters in order to get a refund on your deposit and unused credit.

 

Arriving at CUHK from the Hong Kong International Airport

  1. Via Metro

Airport MTR Station -> University Station (HK$60)

Take the Airport Express Line to Tsing Yi station. Switch first, to the Tung Chung Line (orange) towards Hong Kong. Stop at Lai King station and switch trains to the Tseun Wan Line (red) towards Central. Get off at the Prince Edward station and switch again to the Kwun Tong Line (green). At the Kowloon Tong station, change trains to the East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu and get off at the University station.

Tung Chung Station -> University Station (HK$23)

Take the Airport Shuttle Bus S1 from outside the Airport Passenger Terminal Building, and get off at the Tung Chung station. Take the MTR to the Lai King station and switch to the Tseun Wan Line (red) towards Central. Get off at the Prince Edward station and switch again to the Kwun Tong Line (green). At the Kowloon Tong station, change trains to the East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu and get off at the University station.

  1. Via Bus (Bus A41+MTR: HK$26.3/ BUS E42+MTR: HK$17.9)

Take the Airport Bus A41 or E42, and get off at the Sha Tin Central Bus Terminal. Walk to Sha Tin MTR station (5 minutes) and take the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu. Get off at the University Station.

  1. Via Taxi (approximately HK$250)

Take a green taxi from the airport directly to The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

 

Arriving at CUHK from Shenzhen

  1. Via Shenzhen Train Station (HK$25)

When you exit the train station, you will see the sign “Hong Kong” guiding you towards Luohu Customs (罗湖口岸). Walk through the immigration and customs clearance at the station and arrive at Hong Kong. Take the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Hung Hom and get off at the University station.

  1. Via Shenzhen Airport (approximately HK$42.8)

At the Airport’s B District, you can take the shuttle bus, K568, to Luohu Train Station (罗湖火车站). Walk through the immigration and customs clearance at the station and arrive at Hong Kong. Take the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Hung Hom and get off at the University station.

  1. Via Hung Hom (紅磡) Intercity Through-Train Terminus (HK$6.5)

If you are taking the MTR Intercity Through-Train to Hung Hom station, change to the MTR East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu and get off at the University station.

 

Arriving at CUHK from Macau (approximately HK$170-$190)

 

Take a ferry from the Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal or the Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal to the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal. The journey lasts approximately 45 minutes, excluding immigration and customs clearance in Macau and Hong Kong. After arriving at Hong Kong, take the MTR from the Sheung Wan station and stop one station later, in Central, to switch to the Tseun Wan Line (red) towards Tseun Wan. Get off at the Mong Kok station and switch again, to the Kwun Tong Line (green). Stop at Kowloon Tong station. From here, take the East Rail Line (light blue) towards Lok Ma Chau/Lo Wu and get off at the University station.

 

Arriving at the University Guest House, CUHK

  1. Via Guesthouse Shuttle Bus (8am to 10.45pm only; Free)

The guesthouse offers a free shuttle bus service from the University MTR station (Exit A or C) between 8am and 10.45pm. If you need the service, please call the guesthouse staff in advance at (+852)2603-6411. A shuttle bus will come to receive you.   1. Via University Shuttle Bus (Free)

The University Guesthouse is located at the Chan Kwan Tung Building (昆棟樓) near University Health Centre. From the University MTR station, take either Exit A, C or D. Turn right (from Exit A, C) or turn left (from Exit D), and walk to the bus stop. Take the free shuttle buses to the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall (邵逸夫堂) (3rd stop for Route No. 1A in day-time; 4th stop for Route No. 1B in day-time; 3rd stop for Route No. N after 6:30pm; 3rd stop for Route No. H on Sunday). Cross the road to the Sir Run Run Hall, turn right and walk past the Mong Man Wai Building (蒙民偉樓) that can be recognized by its distinct yellow paint. Keep walking down the slope until you see Clinic Road. Turn left and walk to the end of the road to the Yali Guest House. Please see the following map for your reference.

 

Arriving at the Postgraduate Student Forum Venue, An Integrated Teaching Building, CUHK

  1. From Yali Guest House

Members of the PGSF Committee will meet outside the Yali Guest House to escort you to the forum venue (YIA) at 8:50 on Jan. 23. If you would like to find the place yourself, please see the following map for your reference.You can take the steps from Pentecostal Mission Hall High Block to the Low Block and then take the fast elevator to reach Ho Tim Hall. Then you can walk along the road down to the Venue.

  1. From the University MTR station

Take Exit D. Turn right and walk along the road for 2 minutes. It is located right the opposite of Wu Ho Man Yuen Building.
