Formation of the Committee on Campus Sustainability

The Campus Master Plan (CMP) embraces the principles of sustainable development and strikes a balance between provision for growth and enhancement of campus environment with the conservation of natural heritage.

Although the completion of the Final Campus Master Plan Report marked the end of the project, the Campus Master Planning is a process embodied in a living document. To serve its true purpose successfully in guiding the future course of growth and change in the campus, it must remain open to changing conditions and new ideas, and will require continued interest and engagement of the entire university community.  Stakeholders’ contribution and participation is no less essential to that future success of the process.

To bring the CMP to action, the University has, following the dissolution of the Steering Committee on Campus Master Planning in August 2010, established the Committee on Campus Sustainability (CCS) as a subcommittee of the Campus Planning Committee to follow up a series of action plans formulated in accordance with the recommendations in the CMP adopted by the University for the campus development for the years leading to 2021. Please refer to the Campus Planning and Sustainability Office website for the composition and terms of reference for CCS.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong has decided to embark on mapping out a visionary and sustainable Campus Master Plan (CMP) for its campus development for the years leading up to 2021 and beyond.  For this purpose, it has appointed Aedas Limited and its overseas partner, Edward Cullinan Architect (UK) to be the consultant and architect leading the campus master planning.

The CMP will be a living and developing document setting out the vision of a plan that would ensure balanced and sustainable development of the University campus in the coming decades and laying down development guidelines for the reference of builders engaged for specific projects in future. As such, it is not a fixed design but a strategic approach that can respond to changing conditions and which will decidedly be reviewed from time to time.

「毗鄰富爾敦樓及范克廉樓一塊現為停車場的用地,適合發展較為高密度的教學/研究設施,而近校園本部游泳池以下的用地因滿值大片林木,應避免發展以免破壞這一帶的綠化環境。」- Mr. Kwok Ka Yin
